Discipline-Specific Norm Variations

• Athletics : Medal-winning performance in the National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship may be considered for Level 3/2 and below; Gold medal in Open National Championship (Senior), Inter State Athletics Championship (Senior), or Asian Championship (Senior) may be considered for Level 5/4 and below.
• Ball Badminton : Achievements in BBFI-affiliated events after 17-12-2025 till the date of notification will be considered.
• Body Building : IBBF-affiliated event achievements after 31-12-2021 will not be considered; Association of Indian Universities and recognized International Federation certificates remain permissible.
• Boxing : "Youth" category achievements on or after 25-09-2016 in International Championships are considered in place of "Junior" category.
• Cricket (Men & Women), Level 3/2 : Quarter-finalist in Senior/U-23/U-19 All India Inter State Group Championships (except Plate group), OR participation in Senior/U-23/U-19 All India Inter-Zonal Championship, OR participation in Senior/U-23/U-19 Challenger Trophy.
• Handball (Men & Women) : Achievements in events organized by Handball Association of India (or affiliates) on or after 05-09-2023 will not be considered; Association of Indian Universities and International Federation certificates remain permissible.
• Hockey (Men), Level 3/2 : Participation in International Tournaments (4+ nations, Senior or Junior) or semi-finalist in Senior National Championships may also be considered. Hockey (Women), Level 3/2 : At least 2nd position in International Tournaments of 4+ nations may also be considered.
• Volleyball (Women) : Achievements in events conducted by Volleyball Federation of India after 02-01-2017 will not be considered; Association of Indian Universities and International Federation certificates remain permissible.
• Powerlifting (Men & Women) : Achievements in IPF-affiliated events after 03-10-2017 will not be considered; Association of Indian Universities and International Federation certificates remain permissible.
• Weightlifting (Men & Women) : New bodyweight categories effective 01-06-2025 will be applied.
• Wrestling : Certificates for events conducted by WFI or affiliates after 10-03-2025 till the date of notification shall be considered.

How to Apply?

• Check Eligibility : Ensure you meet the age limit (18–25 years as of 01 January, 2027), possess the requisite educational qualification for Level 5/4, Level 3/2, or Level 1, and hold valid sports achievements from 01 April, 2024 to the date of notification.
• Visit Official Website : Go to the Railway Recruitment Cell, Western Railway (RRC-WR) official portal at www.rrc-wr.com to access the online application link for the Sports Quota recruitment.
• Fill Personal Details : Register by entering accurate personal details, bio-data, active mobile number, valid email ID, and your 12-digit Aadhaar Card number or 28-digit Aadhaar Enrolment ID.
• Upload Scanned Documents : Upload a recent passport-size color photograph (20 kb–70 kb), a clear signature (20 kb–30 kb), academic mark sheets, proof of date of birth, and relevant sports achievement certificates.
• Pay Application Fee : Complete the online fee payment through the integrated payment gateway (Rs. 500 for general candidates with a provision for a Rs. 400 refund, or Rs. 250 for reserved/exempted categories with a full refund upon appearing for trials).
• Submit and Print Application : Review all entered details carefully, submit the form, save/note the generated Registration Number, and take a printout of the application to produce at the selection trial.

Selection Process

• Online Application Submission : Candidates must apply online through the official RRC-Western Railway website within the open application window.

• Document Verification : Eligible and provisionally eligible candidates are called to verify original certificates, including date of birth, educational qualifications, and sports achievements.

• Selection Trials : Candidates who successfully clear document verification appear for selection trials to test game skill, physical fitness, and coach's observations.

• Minimum Trial Performance : Candidates must secure a minimum of 25 out of 40 marks during the trials to be considered 'FIT' for further assessment.

• Scoring and Assessment : Eligible candidates are evaluated out of a total of 100 marks, which include sports achievements (up to 50 marks), trial performance (up to 40 marks), and educational qualifications (up to 10 marks).

• Qualifying Marks Threshold : Candidates must achieve the minimum prescribed qualifying marks based on their pay level (70 marks for Level 5/4, 65 marks for Level 3/2, and 60 marks for Level 1).

• Final Merit and Medical Examination : A final merit list is prepared based on total marks, and provisionally selected candidates must successfully pass the requisite railway medical fitness test and final character verification.
