Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) - 2026 - Qualification Details

  • Primary Level Eligibility (Class 1 to 5) : Eligible candidates must hold a graduation degree from a UGC-recognized university along with a 2-year D.El.Ed (BTC), or a 4-year B.El.Ed, or a Special BTC/Urdu BTC qualification, or a B.Ed (with a mandatory 6-month bridge course after appointment). Candidates in the final year of these qualifying courses are also permitted to apply.
  • Upper Primary Level Eligibility (Class 6 to 8) : Eligible candidates require a graduation degree with a minimum of 50% marks (or 45% under specific NCTE norms) along with a B.Ed, B.Ed (Special Education), 4-year B.A./B.Sc.Ed, or a 2-year D.El.Ed. Final-year students enrolled in these teacher training courses are likewise eligible to participate.
  • Relaxation & Reservation Rules : Reserved category candidates (SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and Divyang) receive applicable relaxations in minimum qualifying marks and educational criteria in accordance with Uttar Pradesh government guidelines.

Selection Process

  • Online Application & Registration : Eligible candidates must complete the mandatory One Time Registration (OTR) and submit their application online through the official UPESSC website (www.upessc.up.gov.in) by paying the prescribed fee based on their category.
  • Written Examination Execution : Candidates appear for the offline objective-type test consisting of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) for either Paper I (Primary Level) or Paper II (Upper Primary Level) with a duration of two and a half hours.
  • Normalization Process : If the volume of applicants is high, the written examination may be conducted across multiple shifts or days, and a normalization process will be applied to the scores accordingly.
  • Qualifying Marks Evaluation : Candidates belonging to the General/EWS category must secure a minimum of 60% (90 out of 150 marks), while reserved categories (SC, ST, OBC, EWS-sub, Ex-Servicemen, Divyang) require 55% (82 out of 150 marks) to qualify.
  • Certificate Issuance & Validity : Qualified candidates are issued a UPTET eligibility certificate digitally via DigiLocker, which remains valid for a lifetime from the date of the declaration of the exam results.
