Three years Diploma/Degree in Auto Mobile Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an Institute recognized by Government.

Constable (Technical) (Group-C Post)

(i) Matriculation or 10th Class pass from a recognized Board or Institution and

(a) Industrial Training Institute certificate in respective trade; or

(b) Three years work experience respective trade from a reputed firm.

  • Credentials Generation : Receive and securely save your system-generated Registration ID and Password sent via SMS and email.

  • Access Application Form : Log in using your credentials, navigate to the active advertisements under the Online Application link, and click Apply Here next to the SMT Workshop posts.

  • Fill Details : Complete STEP-II by carefully entering your basic personal information, educational qualifications, and technical details without errors.

  • Upload Documents : Upload scanned copies of your photo (30–100 KB), signature (20–50 KB), thumb impression, and required qualification certificates within the prescribed size limits.

  • Review and Submit : Thoroughly check all filled entries in the preview screen, then click the Submit button as no modifications can be made afterward.

  • Pay Examination Fee : Complete STEP-III by paying the required application fee (Rs. 200 for Group B, Rs. 100 for Group C) online via Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card, or a Common Service Centre (CSC).

  • Print Confirmation : Successfully complete the process by taking a printout of the final application form and fee receipt for your personal records.

Selection Process

First Phase : Written Examination

  • Written Exam : Objective-type OMR-based composite paper carrying 100 questions for 100 marks with a duration of 2 hours.

  • Qualifying Marks : Minimum threshold is set at 35% for General/EWS/OBC and 33% for SC/ST category candidates.

  • Shortlisting for Next Phase : Qualified candidates are restricted to a maximum of 6 times the number of vacancies or all qualified candidates, whichever is less.

Second Phase : Physical, Documentation, and Practical Tests

  • Physical Standards Test (PST) : Assessment of height, chest, and weight measurements according to prescribed post-wise standards.

  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET) : Qualifying endurance test requiring candidates (excluding Ex-Servicemen) to complete a running event (3.2 km in 17 minutes for males; 1.6 km in 9 minutes for females).

  • Documentation: Verification of original testimonials and certificates regarding age, education, technical qualifications, caste, and experience.

  • Practical/Trade Test : Professional knowledge and practical test based on ITI or trade experience, which is qualifying in nature (35% for UR/OBC/EWS and 33% for SC/ST).

Medical Examination

  • Initial Medical Examination (IME) : Comprehensive medical board assessment of bodily and mental health, visual standards, and physical fitness.

  • Review Medical Examination (RME) : Conducted in continuation (preferably the next day) for candidates declared unfit in IME, provided written consent is submitted within 24 hours to rule out judgment errors.

Drawal of Final Merit List

  • Merit List Preparation : Post-wise and category-wise final merit lists are drawn strictly based on the marks secured by candidates in the written examination.

  • Resolution of Ties : Equal scores are resolved sequentially by written marks, date of birth (older candidates placed higher), and alphabetical order of first names.

  • Publication : The final selected list of candidates is published on the official BSF website without maintaining any waiting list.
