Rashid also made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in October 2015. He became the leading wicket-taker in men’s T20Is in September 2025, overtaking New Zealand’s Tim Southee during Afghanistan’s tri-series clash against the UAE in Sharjah.
Rashid’s figures of 3/21 took him to 165 wickets, going past Southee’s tally of 164.
Meanwhile, Azmatullah and Ahmadzai’s 142-run stand is the highest for the sixth wicket in T20Is, breaking the record of 139 between Andre Russell and Sherfane Rutherford.
It is also the highest for Afghanistan, breaking the record of an 86-run partnership between Mohammad Nabi and Ibrahim Zadran.
Zimbabwe found a good start in the 222-run chase, as Brian Bennett and Innocent Kaia added 39 runs for the opening partnership. After the latter was dismissed by Azmatullah Omarzai, Zimbabwe collapsed.
They soon found themselves on 84/5 before skipper Sikandar Raza and Tafadzwa Tsiga built a 120-run partnership for the sixth wicket. But that wasn’t enough as Zimbabwe fell 19 runs short of the target.
