Apple iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max launched: Price, features and more

Apple has officially launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, its latest flagship smartphones, with the company focusing on four major areas this year: cameras, performance, battery life and artificial intelligence. Both models come with Apple's new A20 Pro chipset, iOS 27 and a redesigned Dynamic Island.

iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max price in India

The iPhone 18 Pro price in India starts at Rs 1,64,900, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,79,900. Both smartphones will be available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage variants.

Apple is offering the new Pro iPhones in four finishes: black, silver, glacier and an all-new burgundy colour. Pre-orders will begin on September 12, with availability starting September 18. India is among the countries included in the first wave of sales.

Variable aperture comes to the iPhone

The camera system gets one of the most significant upgrades this generation. Both iPhone 18 Pro models feature a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, bringing adjustable aperture control to the iPhone for the first time.

The system uses six laser-cut blades and offers four aperture settings. The camera can automatically select an appropriate aperture based on lighting and depth-of-field requirements, while users can manually adjust it for greater creative control.

Apple has also introduced Pro controls in the Camera app, allowing users to change aperture, shutter speed and white balance. A histogram is available for monitoring exposure. Photographic Styles now offer additional texture and grain controls, while video recording gains post-capture Cinematic effects for footage recorded at up to 60fps. Time-lapse videos can also be recorded in 4K Dolby Vision HDR.

A20 Pro powers the new Pro iPhones

Under the hood, both smartphones feature the A20 Pro chip, manufactured using 2nm process technology. The processor includes a six-core CPU, seven-core GPU and a 32-core Neural Engine designed to handle demanding applications, gaming and on-device AI workloads.

Apple claims A20 Pro provides 50 percent more memory bandwidth than the previous-generation A19 Pro, while its GPU can be up to 40 percent faster. A redesigned vapour chamber with three times the surface area also helps improve sustained performance.

iPhone 18 Pro Max gets the bigger battery advantage

Battery life is one area where the Pro Max stands apart. The eSIM-only iPhone 18 Pro Max offers up to 45 hours of video playback, compared with up to 36 hours on the iPhone 18 Pro.

Apple says five minutes of wired charging on the Pro Max can deliver around seven hours of video playback. The iPhone 18 Pro can charge to 50 percent in around 15 minutes using wired charging, while wireless charging can reach 50 percent in 30 minutes.

iOS 27 and Siri AI

Both models run iOS 27 and bring the next generation of Apple Intelligence, including Siri AI in beta. Siri can use personal context, understand onscreen information and take actions across supported apps. Apple Intelligence also adds features such as Spatial Reframing, Extend, upgraded Clean Up and photorealistic imagery through Image Playground.
