CM Vijay's son Jason Sanjay reacts to TVK chants at Sigma event. Watch

CM Vijay's son Jason Sanjay was interrupted by loud chants of his father's political party, TVK (Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam), at the pre-release event for his directorial debut Sigma in Tamil Nadu's Salem on Tuesday evening. The crowd was repeatedly cheering for the political party founded by his father, Tamil superstar CM Vijay.

The debutant filmmaker was speaking on stage when the audience grew increasingly vocal, eventually chanting "TVK" until Jason acknowledged them with a thumbs-up.

The moment came after Jason thanked his team and said, "A special thanks to my family," which prompted loud cheers from the audience. As the noise continued, Sigma actors Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah could be seen reacting to the crowd, while Jason smiled and nodded. The host also attempted to adjust the microphone volume before the chants of TVK took over. Jason then gave the crowd a thumbs-up, following which he continued with his speech.

Here's the video:

"We've all had a Sigma moment in our lives. We've faced big troubles due to the decisions we've made, but have risen from them. I believe this story about a common man is one that everyone can relate to," Jason said.

The TVK chants come amid persistent speculation about an alleged rift between the father-son duo. The rumours began after reports that Vijay's wife Sangeeta Sornalingam had filed for divorce emerged. They grew stronger in March after Jason reportedly unfollowed his father on Instagram.

Sankgeeta later withdrew her divorce petition in August. Neither Vijay nor Jason has publicly addressed the speculation surrounding their relationship.

At the Salem event, Jason also spoke warmly about his family. When asked about the first film he watched, he revealed that it was Vijay and Jyotika's Thirumalai, which he watched when he was three years old. He also said that his mother was the first person he called after officially becoming a director. "To my amma (mother). She was very happy," he said.

Sundeep Kishan also praised Vijay at the event, calling him "the identity of our film and our biggest inspiration," prompting Jason to smile and appear to agree with the actor.

Sigma marks Jason Sanjay's debut as a director. Produced by Lyca Productions, the heist comedy stars Sundeep Kishan, Faria Abdullah, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt, Yog Japee, Sheela Rajkumar and Raju Sundaram, among others. Thaman S has composed the music. The film was initially scheduled to release on July 31 but was postponed after Vijay's Jana Nayagan hit theatres on July 23.

Sigma is all set to hit theatres on October 2.
