Cocktail 2 box office collection day 2: Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Rashmika Mandanna rom-com nears Rs 30 crore

The romantic entanglements between Kunal (Shahid Kapoor), Ally (Kriti Sanon) and Diya (Rashmika Mandanna) in Cocktail 2 have held interest on its second day at the box office. The new romance is not a follow-up to the 2012 film, which starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty. Instead, director Homi Adajania returns to tell a new tale in the spiritual sequel. On opening day, June 19, the Hindi film raked in Rs 13.50 crore. It released alongside the Hollywood animated sequel Toy Story 5 and Samantha Ruth Prabhu's Telugu film Maa Inti Bangaram.

Cocktail 2 Box Office Collection Day 2

According to early estimates from Sacnilk, Cocktail 2 earned Rs 16.25 crore on its second day. The numbers were up 20.4 per cent from the first day's collection of Rs 13.50 crore. The Hindi film's total India nett collections are Rs 29.75 crore. It lost around 600 screens on its second day from 10,835 to 10,245. However, the total occupancy grew from 21 per cent to 25 per cent. Overall, it looks as if the film has maintained good growth thanks to the Cocktail name recognition and the star cast.

Currently, it ranks in the top 5 rom-coms in Hindi cinema for its opening day. It has beaten the films Luka Chuppi (2019), Tanu Weds Manu Returns (2015), and Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) and is trailing only Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar (2023). If it continues into double digits into the weekend, it could earn Rs 50 crore before Monday, June 22.

What is the story of Cocktail 2?

The new film sets its action in Sicily, Italy (where the movie was also filmed), as childhood sweethearts Kunal and Diya decide to go on a vacation. On their holiday, the couple runs into Alisha, aka Ally, Diya's college friend. With Kunal and Diya about to tie the knot after 16 years, will Ally's presence play spoilsport?

Written by Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar director Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain, Cocktail 2 also stars Tiku Talsania, Mark Bennington, Kannan Arunachalam, Suparna Marwah and Neelu Kohli. Like Cocktail (2012), Pritam has returned to compose the music for this spiritual sequel. The lyrics were written by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Bandhu 2.0, with the voices of Kavita Seth and Neeraj Shridhar, is a recreated version of the chartbuster Tumhi Ho Bandhu from the first film. Tumhi Ho Bandhu was penned by Irshad Kamil.
