15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi rewrites IPL history, fastest to 1,000 runs
Vaibhav Suryavanshi has done something in this IPL that not even Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma have managed. Against Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 on Friday night, the 15-year-old showed a completely different side to his batting. He became the fastest batter in IPL history to complete 1,000 runs. He got there in just 440 balls and that elite list has the likes of Andre Russell, Travis Head, Virender Sehwag. Now we have spent this entire IPL season watching and talking about Vaibhav attacking bowling lineups from the ball one and notch up records like six of the first ball of his IPL career, Most powerplay runs in a season, which he has got in 2026, most sixes as well. But against Gujarat, when Rajasthan Royals were in serious trouble early, when wickets kept falling at regular intervals, and suddenly Rajasthan needed somebody to stay at the crease, the teenager changed gears. He showed a great deal of maturity. was one of the most impressive knocks with a very impressive temperament. He kept rotating strikes, picking the gap. His half century came in 31 balls, officially the slowest 50 of his IPL career. It was a pull of Prasidh Krishna to deep square lane. He became the first player ever to score more than 500 runs in power play in a single IPL season and that means teams haven't been able to stop Suryavanshi even with field restrictions and a new ball but tonight it was a calm and controlled effort just playing for his team but once he got to his half century the teenager realized Rajasthan was at 120 for 5 in 13 overs and he switched gears. In fact, he got hit on his helmet trying a pull of Kabizu Rabada but he stood tall. He belted Holder for 16 in the 16th over and Sundar for 17 runs in the 17th. His next 46 runs came in 16 balls. He eventually got out for 96 of 47 balls. the third time this season, he has missed a hundred in the 90s. But this innings felt important. felt special for a very different reason. Until now, Vaibhav Suryavanshi looked like a pure attacking talent. Against Gujarat, he showed he can also absorb pressure and play according to the situation and that makes Rajasthan Royals an even more dangerous site going forward.
