About the News

The Ramsar Convention is an international treaty adopted in 1971 in Ramsar, Iran, for the conservation and wise use of wetlands. Ramsar sites provide important habitats for resident and migratory birds, support biodiversity and contribute to water security and climate resilience.

Sukhna Wetland is located in Chandigarh, while Sauj Jheel is in Uttar Pradesh. Their inclusion strengthens India's efforts to protect ecologically important wetlands.
