• Educational & Other qualifications for direct recruits :
  • (i) Possession of a valid driving license for light & heavy motor vehicles.
  • (ii) Knowledge of Motor Mechanism (The candidate should be able to remove minor defects in vehicle).
  • (iii) Experience of driving light & heavy motor vehicle for at least three years.
  • (iv) Pass in 10th Standard from a recognized Board or Institute.
• Desirable qualification : Three years' service as Home Guard or Civil Volunteers.

How to Apply?

• Download Application Form : Download the application form and the e-payment challan form from the official website www.indiapost.gov.in.

• Pay Application Fee : Pay the application fee of Rs. 100/- through e-payment using the challan at any computerized post office in India (E-Biller Name: Senior Manager, MMS Chennai, CPMG Tamilnadu Circle, E-Biller ID: 1000099022), noting that women, SC, and ST applicants are exempt from this fee.

• Fill Application Form : Fill out the prescribed application format completely in Hindi, English, or Tamil without corrections, and ensure it is duly signed.

• Attach Photographs : Affix one recent passport-size photograph on the application form and make sure it is duly self-attested, while keeping a second recent photograph enclosed.

• Enclose Fee Receipt : Paste the original fee receipt generated by the post office onto the application form.

• Gather Self-Attested Documents : Photocopy and self-attest all required supporting certificates, including age proof, educational qualifications, community/caste certificates, valid EWS certificate (if applicable), valid driving license for LMV and HMV with dates, and a relevant experience certificate.

• Send Application by Speed Post : Mail the fully completed application along with all enclosures through Speed Post only to "The Senior Manager, Mail Motor Service, No.37, Greams Road, Chennai - 600 006" so that it is received on or before 30 November, 2026 by 1700 Hours.

Selection Process

• Stage I Theory Test : Candidates must appear for a competitive 90-minute multiple-choice theory test worth 80 marks covering general knowledge, general intelligence & reasoning, simple arithmetic, and road sense/motor mechanism/traffic rules, requiring minimum qualifying marks of 33% for SC/ST, 37% for OBC and EWS, and 40% for others.

• Stage II Practical Test : Candidates who qualify in Stage I are eligible to appear for Stage II, which consists of a 40-minute practical test divided into two papers (Paper I for motor mechanism/minor repairs worth 10 marks and Paper II for heavy motor vehicle driving worth 10 marks), with the same category-wise minimum qualifying marks required in each paper.

• Final Merit List Preparation : The final merit list of qualified candidates is prepared based on the total marks secured by candidates across both Stage I and Stage II of the examination.

• Category Allotment and Selection : Successful candidates equal to the number of vacancies in each category are declared based on the final merit list order, and selected candidates are allotted to divisions or units where vacancies are available according to their merit and personal preference.
