Serena Williams shares powerful body positivity message after transformation as 2026 tennis comeback rumors swirl

Serena Williams is once again getting people talking, but this time it is not about a tennis match. The 23-time Grand Slam champion recently shared a heartfelt message on Instagram about accepting her body and feeling comfortable in her own skin. The post came after fans noticed her physical transformation following a weight-loss journey that included changes in diet, exercise, and the use of GLP-1 medication.

In the photos, Serena Williams stood outdoors near a pool, surrounded by trees. She wore an olive-green one-piece swimsuit, a soft robe, and tan slippers. Along with the photos, she shared a simple but powerful message about self-acceptance. Serena Williams wrote on Instagram, “I am not perfect….but I’m perfectly me. Take out time today to celebrate being perfectly you! 💋.”

Serena Williams opens up about body image struggles and how she learned to ignore criticism

Serena Williams has spent decades in the public eye, winning 73 WTA singles titles and becoming one of the most successful players in tennis history. But despite all the victories, she has spoken honestly about a personal challenge that followed her throughout her career: body image.

Early in her tennis journey, Serena Williams often looked different from many other players on the tour. Her powerful and muscular build stood out at a time when many female athletes were expected to look thinner. The difference sometimes brought criticism and unwanted comments.

Speaking to Net-a-Porter in December, Serena Williams explained how those early years affected her mentally. She said, “It was hard because when I was playing in the beginning – the first 15 years – my body was different. I had big boobs; I had a big butt. Every athlete was like super flat, super thin and beautiful, but in a different way. And I didn’t understand as an athlete how to deal with that. It does affect you mentally. Absolutely.”

Over time, Serena Williams says she learned to focus on her own mindset rather than outside opinions. The tennis legend explained that trying to change what others think is not worth the emotional stress.

She told Net-a-Porter, “I don’t hear the noise. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. How am I going to sit here and change someone’s thought? If you don’t like me, you don’t have to. I’m not going to let anyone bring me down. I put enough stress on myself. The last thing I’m going to allow is someone else to do that.”

Meanwhile, Serena Williams has also sparked fresh discussion in the tennis world for another reason. According to the International Tennis Integrity Agency testing pool list, her name appeared again in October. Under tennis rules, any player planning a comeback must spend six months in the testing pool before returning to competition.

Because of that process, Serena Williams became eligible to return to professional tennis after February 22, 2026, though she has not officially announced any comeback plans.

For now, her recent message on Instagram shows that Serena Williams is focusing on confidence, self-respect, and celebrating individuality, lessons that go far beyond tennis.
