Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann says 'Diljit Dosanjh is being pressurised to enter politics' after firing near manager’s home

A wave of concern has swept through fans of Diljit Dosanjh after reports emerged of shots being allegedly fired outside his manager Gurpartap Singh Kang’s residence in Karnal.

The incident quickly went viral online, with worried fans reacting across social media.

The situation has since taken a political angle after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann suggested that Diljit Dosanjh was being “pressurised” to enter politics. He alleged that certain political groups were trying to push the singer into a political role because of his popularity.

In his statement, Bhagwant Mann said in Punjabi, “In the last few days, it was heard that Diljit (Dosanjh) was being pressurised by the BJP to enter politics. Diljit has clearly said that he is an artist and enjoys his work. Then, there are other ways (of creating pressure) by shooting at someone's manager, etc. Such a kind of politics should not be done."

Bhagwant Mann also added that celebrities are often seen as influential figures in politics due to their massive public following.

He pointed out that several well-known personalities have moved into political life, suggesting that similar expectations are being placed on Diljit Dosanjh because of his widespread fan base.

He even referred to actor-turned-politician Vijay while discussing how popularity often translates into political interest.

As per initial reports, unidentified individuals allegedly opened fire outside Gurpartap Singh Kang’s home in Karnal.

Soon after, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang reportedly claimed responsibility for the firing. However, the case remains under investigation, and Haryana Police have said that they have not received any formal complaint from the manager or his family.

Karnal Superintendent of Police Narendra Bijarniya stated, “There is no information from the family side,” while confirming that inquiries are still underway.

However, Diljit Dosanjh has consistently dismissed any speculation about joining politics. Responding earlier to a Punjabi Tribune article that suggested he could be a political face for Punjab, he made his position clear on X, writing, “Kadey v Nhi..Mera Kam Entertainment Karna. (Never. My job is to entertain) Am Very Happy in My Field. Thank You So Much.”

More recently, Diljit Dosanjh also found himself in the spotlight after addressing protesters waving pro-Khalistani flags at one of his concerts.

Reacting firmly on stage, he said, “If you still have an issue that I sat across someone on television…jinne jhande dikhane dilkhai challo (then keep waving how many flags you want to).” He later clarified that while peaceful expression is acceptable, any form of harassment or disruption of fans would not be tolerated, stressing that intent matters more than symbols or banners.

On the professional front, Diljit Dosanjh will next appear in Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga, which also stars Vedang Raina, Sharvari Wagh, and Naseeruddin Shah.
