NEET UG 2026 paper leak: CM Vijay demands to abolish exam, admit students on basis of class 12 marks

NEET UG 2026 Paper Leak: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, days after the NEET UG paper allegedly got leaked, urged the centre to scrap NEET-based admission for medical studies. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the chief minister reminded that the exam has been compromised on multiple occasions. He further stated that the underprivileged students from the rural regions face several issues due to this exam. The actor-turned politician further demanded to fill the seats on the basis of Class 12 marks.

In his post, Vijay stated that the paper got leaked despite several reforms in 2024, adding that there were structural flaws in a national-level exam. "In 2024, the question paper was leaked and FIRs were registered across six States and transferred to the CBI...a high-level Committee of Experts under Dr K Radhakrishnan, former Chairman of ISRO, submitted 95 comprehensive recommendations for reforms. Despite all this, within two years, another paper leak has occurred and the examination has been cancelled," he said.

The chief minister further stated that the Tamil Nadu government has unanimously opposed NEET, reiterating demands of filling seats on the basis of class 12 marks. "The Governments of Tamil Nadu, has been consistently and unanimously opposing NEET since its very inception. The introduction of NEET has severely disadvantaged the students from rural areas, Government schools, Tamil medium backgrounds, and socio-economically disadvantaged families," Vijay said.

"The Government of Tamil Nadu reiterates the State long pending demand to abolish NEET and permit the States to fill all seats under the State quota in MBBS, BDS, and AYUSH courses on the basis of Class 12 marks," he added," he added. Former Chief Minister MK Stalin also demanded to scrap the NEET and consider Class 12 marks for admission purposes.

Earlier during the UPA era, President APJ Abdul Kalam allowed the state to introduce its own system; however, the centre mandated NEET in 2017.
