A Nagpur-based etiquette coach shared a video showing how he preferred to eat dosa with a fork and spoon, explaining why he chose to eat it that way.
The video was shared on the Instagram account of Western Wings Spoken English, where an etiquette coach demonstrated how diners shoud eat a dosa at a restaurant using a spoon and fork.
In the clip, the coach held both pieces of cutlery before carefully folding the dosa into a small parcel. He then used the fork to cut off a bite-sized portion before transferring it onto the spoon and eating it.
The demonstration was presented as a cleaner and more polished way of enjoying dosa when dining at restaurants.
"Using a fork and spoon for dosa can make dining more hygienic, especially in restaurants where utensils are provided," the caption read. It added that eating neatly and confidently was part of "graceful dining" and described good etiquette as a timeless tradition rather than a trend.

The demonstration, however, did not convince everyone.
Several viewers pointed out that eating with one's hands was not inherently unhygienic, provided the hands were properly washed before eating. For them, using cutlery was a matter of personal preference or dining style rather than a requirement for maintaining hygiene.
Others questioned why eating a dosa with one's hands, as is customary for many people, needed to be presented as less elegant or less hygienic in the first place.
The discussion also showed the difference between etiquette and hygiene, with viewers arguing that clean hands can be just as hygienic as properly used cutlery.
For many, the familiar experience of tearing off a piece of dosa, pairing it with chutney or sambar and eating it by hand was perfectly acceptable, especially when done in a clean setting.
