Kerala toddler dies after anaesthesia given for cut lip, case against doctor

this is a unfortunate development. Tragic death of one and a half year old toddler in Kannur, Kerala. Child dies after anesthesia complications have been reported. He fell at home, admitted for facial injury and there were stitches. Lost consciousness after anesthesia, was shifted to Kannur hospital, was on ventilator support and that was given to the child immediately. Doctors confirmed brain death. The family alleges medical negligence by doctors. As of now, certainly there is no question whether there was some kind of a doctor negligence or not. Well, this unfortunate event took place at Kannur in Kerala. Now, following a complaint that has been given by the relative of child K. Rajivan, a case has been filed in the Payyanur police station against the anesthetist Dr. Anjali Puduval. A case has been filed under section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita. Now, What the family claims is that on Sunday when the child fell down and the child's lip was injured, they were first taken to one hospital and then transferred to Baby Memorial Hospital in Payenoor, after which later the child was told that surgery needs to be done. While the child was placed on the mother's lap, the anesthetist came and gave the anesthesia. And as soon as the anesthesia was given, the child's eyes went up and then never opened. So the mother had also stated that the child was, in fact, a pre-born child seven months before the time it was born. It was after a very difficult pregnancy. After eight years, they had born their child. So this immense pain that is going on in the family, the family has definitely complained. Police are going to investigate the matter.
