TV Actor Rohit Chandel Arrested In Mumbai After Teenager Girl Alleges Stalking, Physical Abuse - Report

Television actor Rohit Chandel, who has featured in the TV shows like Pandya Store and Kashibai Bajirao Ballal, has been reportedly arrested by Mumbai Police after a 16-year-old girl accused him of allegedly stalking, harassment and assault. The case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). According to a report by The Times of India, the 29-year-old actor was nabbed from his residence in Dahisar on Friday, July 10, police said. He was later produced before a special POCSO court and was remanded to police custody for further investigation.

According to the report, the authorities claimed that the complaint was filed by the family of the minor who stated that Chandel had been repeatedly calling her on her personal phone number and on several other numbers over a period of time causing her distress. The complaint also states that on July 5, the actor approached the teenager near her residential building in Mumbai's eastern suburbs.

Charges against Rohit Chandel

Rohit Chandel has been charged with following her near her residential building, arguing with her, verbally abusing her and physically assaulting her by hitting her with his hands. The police have invoked Section 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for stalking and Section 115(2) on causing hurt besides the POCSO Act. Investigators say the complainant and accused were known to each other before the alleged incident. But officials are yet to reveal more information about the nature of their relationship.

Chandel or his representatives have yet to make a public statement in response to the allegations. The police said that the investigation was on and any further action would depend on the results of the probe. The charges against the actor have yet to be tested in court.

"Following the complaint, a case was registered and the accused has been placed under arrest. Further probe is underway in the case," a police official confirmed, according to the report.

After playing a minor role, he went on to appear in various Hindi series in several significant roles over the years. In 2022, he played the lead role of Baji Rao in Kashibai Bajirao Ballal. From 2023 to 2024, he played the male lead Dhawal Makwana in Pandya Store opposite Priyanshi Yadav

He was last seen in the television show Sairaab. where he played the character of Ishaan Ganguly.
