How to stop being lazy
Hey guys, welcome to. Silicon Valley girl. Welcome to Silicon Valley Palo Alto and welcome to my new vlog. Today we're going to talk about how to stop being lazy, and I love this topic. I think it's really important to talk about that because being lazy is not necessarily a bad thing. As you know, we're moving around, we're traveling around, and we're currently in Silicon Valley. Yes, we're back. In the Bay Area. And I just realized that it is one of the best places for us right now. Yes, it is very expensive, but we've. Been to Malibu, we've been to Topanga, we've been to San Anselmo. Every neighborhood is amazing. A lot of great people, a lot of beautiful houses, cheaper lifestyle, but when we came back here to Palo Alto, every single. Day is filled with meeting. Amazing. People, amazing entrepreneurs and you know, some of you commented. Below my San Francisco. Video that. We just need to make more money and I guess that's the thing in your. 30s you just. Need to make more money to afford? The lifestyle that you want, because I feel that living in Silicon Valley is actually investing in yourself. And it's investing in your network. And this is a jump start for you to go to even higher level. So right now we're here. We're going to LA for just four days because we are hopefully going to Russia. But I don't want to promise anything. I don't want to make any firm plans because I've made a lot of plans for the summer and they didn't come to life. So hopefully we're going there and then when we're back in October, we'll be looking for a house in this neighborhood. This is the downside of. Traveling all the. Time you have huge suitcases and. You can never find the right place for them. So this one is in the living room and it serves as a wardrobe. Just has all my stuff there and Dima stuff. And then I got a. New. Vlogging camera this is something that you see right now I'm filming with it it's Sony ZV1. I'm going to leave a link below I love it guys whoever is watching this channel because they want to start a YouTube channel. I highly recommend it, especially with this grip because the focus is so much faster and the sound is really good. The only problem with it is. That the image might appear. Too close so my. Face is too big, but. Other than that, everything is amazing. One of the things that I really like about being so mobile and traveling from one place to another is that you start to realize. That you don't really need too much stuff and I'm carrying too much stuff with me. So I started selling a lot of things even after we moved. If you watched one of my previous vlogs, I used Mercari app for selling my iPhone, my old iPhone, and it took 10 minutes to sell. So I'm still using that app. And they have this new feature that they wanted me to talk about in this video. For everyone who lives in San Francisco, they partnered with both mates and what's amazing, you don't have to have any box for whatever you're selling. I'm currently selling this flat iron from a hair that I'm no longer using and the way it works is that I just put it in a bag or I could just give it to a postmate without a bag. Postmate is going to carry it to the buyer and it's going to be a contact last delivery. Very safe and it's going to happen within a day. This is the best thing ever. So first of all, I don't have to buy boxes. Second, once the buyer receives the item, I get money right away. So it happens within a day. And for the buyer, it's an amazing option to get the item right away, within one day. This option is only available in San Francisco, so if you want to. Start. Selling your old. Things and things you no longer need or if you. Want to start? Buying things in a new way. The link to download the app will be below. The app is called Mercari and I. Highly recommend it. Now, one question that you have to ask yourself when you're sitting down to do something and suddenly you feel. This laziness coming in and you're like I. Don't want to do that. Ask yourself, do you really have to do that? Because my laziness. Kicks in whenever. I started. Doing things that could be delegated. Or things that are useless. Because when I'm super excited about something, I'm super excited about blogging. I'm super excited about running my business, growing my business, trying out new things. So whenever I'm super excited about something, you can't stop me. I could be hungry. I could be tired. But I'm super excited. I would. Continue doing. What I like? So first. Of all, you really need to ask yourself, do I like what I'm doing? Because, again, laziness. Is just protecting you from doing unnecessary things. Or things that. Could be done better by somebody else. The second thing that I've realized recently is that you really need those lazy days. Because sometimes. You're like, OK, we can, this is my time to work. Because I can't. Spend another day not working. And I know there are some influencers out there who are just promoting this unhealthy lifestyle without breaks. I don't like it at all. So on Saturdays I just can't work full mode as I do during the weekdays. It's just. Because my body. Relaxes and I know my husband is at home and he has some time. And I just see relaxed people around me and my. Body enters this lazy mode. I don't punish. Myself, because the worst thing is to start punishing yourself on a weekend that you're not doing anything. And I had this problem before Emily. I hated weekends because I didn't know what to do. I was like, OK, everybody's at home, nothing is happening. I can't work. What should I do? And because that. Mood accumulated as a snowball. I didn't really want to film videos because I didn't feel too productive and I thought I'm just being lazy. But now when Emily came, I just realized that, you know, this is a great opportunity to spend time with family. And relaxing doesn't mean being lazy. You have to relax. You have to give yourself. Some rest on the weekend. Watch YouTube, scroll through Instagram, maybe even for a couple of hours. It's OK because our brain, especially when you're scrolling through Instagram, our brain enters this meditation mode where you're reading a book or you're just staring at something watching a TV show. That might seem useless. It's actually very useful because it helps. Our brain to relax, it helps. You to. Go from your reality to a different reality. And This is why I love traveling. Whenever you go to a different reality, you look back at your life from a completely different angle, from a completely different perspective. And this what helps you find new ways to improve your life. This what helps you stay productive backstage. It's a. Little. Messy. No excuse for that. But this is my new video being uploaded on my drive for my editor. This is my. Messy workstation I'm. Getting ready for another video. I'm going to make. Like a history of Silicon Valley or stories from Silicon Valley and, and this amazing book that was given to me by one of my local friends. And yeah, all the notes here to help me organize my content. By the way, another great thing to stop being lazy is to constantly explore different worlds. So for example, in 2014, I discovered YouTube and I realized this is a completely new world. And I started, you know, realizing that there are different celebrities on YouTube, I started thinking of what I can do on YouTube to maybe start a, you know, a sidekick. And. Every year I take up something new. In 2019, I studied marketing and pregnancy and childbirth. And this year I'm studying finance, personal finance and investing and I already have around $30,000 invested. But the course that I'm taking, it has started with a question. What is my financial goal? I realized. That my financial goal after a lot of thinking is. To have 2.5 million. Dollars invested. In five years. And I think a good portfolio is a mix of stocks and bonds and ETFs and probably a house. But the dilemma here is that I really want to buy a house where I would want to live. And if I want to be. Here in Silicon Valley, well this Crescent park is like 5 to $7,000,000 per house. I really like Malibu and Malibu is something around 1.21 point 5 million doable. But also people tell me why don't you just buy like a small house in a good neighborhood so you can rent it out. So I'm still trying to decide that. So I started building My Portfolio, started investing, but I just started with stocks, ETFs. But if you follow my videos about investing, you know all. Of that, but yeah, that's. A dilemma. So on one hand, I want to invest in my lifestyle, in my network, and I want to live in a place that is great for networking. By the way, I asked my local Silicon Valley friends what are the top five neighborhoods for networking and they said Atherton, Crescent Park, Los Altos Hills, Portola Valley and Woodside. Just because top entrepreneurs and top investors live there, you just network by. Meeting your neighbors and. On the one hand, I really want to invest in what surrounds me. I really want to invest. In living in a neighborhood. That inspires me. That makes me think bigger. And think about bigger things in life. By investing here I mean. Renting an apartment which doesn't really create an asset. And if I want to buy something? Then I have to, you know, say goodbye to this kind of networking. And it's really, really. Hard. So if you have any advice, if you have any thoughts, comment down below what would you do? I love being closer to nature. Just because this is my workstation. When it's not too hot, this is where I have breakfast, this is where I have dinner, this is where we sit down in the evening to chat and have. Our evening tea. And I know I've inspired a lot of my friends and a lot of my followers to actually travel around their state travel. In their country. Because, you know, a lot of us had plans for the summer. A lot of us wanted to travel. But then. Things happened. And plans crashed and I think this is the best oops bug. This is the. Best thing that? We could have done because first. We actually saved money because if we. Started traveling while having a rental in San Francisco. We would have spent a lot more. Second, we explored neighborhoods. Third Emily. Just. Loves the weather because she can walk all day. My mom loves the weather because she can walk all day as well. And we also realized what kind of lifestyle we really prefer. And so from all the places where we've been, I would say #1 is here, Crescent Park in Palo Alto. Number 2 is Malibu. And by the way. If you're. Looking at a family neighborhood that is more affordable but also close to all the networking. San Anselmo, San. Wow. Amazing neighborhoods I. Love them, especially. When you're walking around and you see all the Peach trees and flum trees and amazing people willing to meet. You I love that experience as well by the way guys, if you. Decide to do. The same thing if we get things into storage and travel. One advice from me, look for houses where people actually live because there are a lot of families who went to travel like this family who is renting out this house and I will leave a link below to this listing on Airbnb. Maybe you would want and come here because we got this rental cheaper than if we rented this house with an annual. Lease. Which is kind of funny. And by the way, when we were exploring our neighborhood, we realized that we live 200 meters away from Mark Zuckerberg. He's basically two blocks away. This is so funny. Like where where I come from in Russia if. You are a. Big businessman and. You have your residence. You would have. High fence you. Would have a lot of guards. He kind of has this fence, but it's a live fence, this green fence, and there are two. Cars with. His guards, but. They look like ordinary people. Ordinary. Cars and they say hi to you whenever you past the house. But they have. This iPad in their cars and they have cameras so they're looking at different angles of the house. Going. Back to a question about being. Lazy this. Is when this feeling just goes. Away because. Environment gives you additional energy. Environment gives you additional. Ideas. Environment. Gives you additional kick in the. Butt to start working because you just get inspired by all the people because you realize they're just next door. Also working at the startup. Also working from home, doing things from home, doing amazing things from home. I just wish that you. Guys, figure out what is this place in the world for you? Where do you feel most productive? Maybe it's your? Home, maybe you just want to be closer to your family and Internet. Connection is enough. Maybe you want to travel the world in. Vacuum bags. And get inspired. Or maybe you want to go to a big city like New York or San Francisco. So if you figure that out and if you have an opportunity. To. Go and travel and to experience. The lifestyle, even for a couple. Weeks I guarantee you would be so motivated to work harder and you will forget what laziness is. Because your energy. Levels are going to rise and. You would start. Iterating on different ideas on different things you can do in your life. Another great life. Hack if you feel lazy. It's not that you have to drink too much coffee, but I started drinking two cups a day. And it. Really, really helps. It might be a little unhealthy, but I'm not sure because people are divided into two camps. Some say it's really unhealthy, some other people say it's OK. If your buddy. Processes it, so yeah, I have. My favorite? Oat milk and this is my afternoon coffee. It's two PMI still have to finish this video and I have to do some work related things. I started Bilibili. A Chinese. Social network and I already have over 1000 subscribers there and I need to create a content plan for my team to work on it. I just love Palo Alto for buildings that remind me of Italy or Saint Petersburg. This is the most expensive ethnic house here. Look at. This. It looks crazy. It's insane. Palo Alto is an amazing place in terms of architecture and my Russian soul misses. Architecture like. That because it has this beautiful mansions that look like phalluses, because people who came here in the early 9 hundreds, they started building amazing homes. And whenever we walk with Emily and I see a house like that, I start Googling. And what is interesting here is that sometimes you can Google who lives there. So you just type in the address and residence and all the residents are amazing people. Some of them are Stanford, some of them unnotable VCs. And you just realize that you live among amazing, amazing people, hard working. And that also helps with laziness because you see everyone doing something around you and you see those tremendous results. You feel like, wow, you can do it as well. You feel like if you're in the same place with those people, there's actually opportunity for you as well. And again, This is why I like Silicon Valley. We're just running errands with my husband because we are going to LA on the weekend. So we need to do some, you know, household stuff. I'm giving back some stuff that I bought because it wasn't something I was looking for. And then we are we're going to do some grocery shopping. And yeah, just this day when we worked in the morning. And it's one of those days that you kind of have during the week when you just have to manage different household things. And by the way, guys, let me know if you like watching blogs because I know I do a lot of talking head videos. But now that I have my amazing new camera, I just want to show you around. I just want to show you around Silicon Valley. I want to show you around LA, show you all my trips. Let me know if you enjoy this kind of content.
