Milos was Greece's best-kept secret… then the world started finding out - "It won't stay hidden forever"
Today I'm going to be showing you the hidden gem of the Greek islands, the island of Milos. You can do it in this video. I'm going to be showing you all the most popular spots, the best restaurants, and even the hidden gems that nobody's talking about. And after trying to research Milos, I have to say this is the video I wish I had before arriving here. Yeah. Good morning and welcome to the island of Milos. And this is literal paradise, and if I'm looking a little sweaty right now, it's because it's hot and Ruby and I just went for a run all through the hills here. Felt. Great. Oh my gosh, it's a parade. There's hundreds of goats just clicking and clonking. This is the dream. So before we really start, you need to know a bit about Milos. First of all, this island is unbelievably beautiful and in this guide, we're going to be spending a lot of time in a place called Placa, which is basically this incredible local town up in the mountains where some of the most amazing food is to be discovered. I'll be showing you the legendary SATA Kaniko beach, which pretty much is like taking a ticket to the moon. I'll show you this place, this place and this place, and of course, Kleptico beach, which can only be accessed by water. This is the map of Milos, and the left and the right side of this island are basically so remote and rugged that you either can't explore it or you need a 4 by 4 vehicle. Now this. This is not a 4 by 4 vehicle, but at €70 a day, it's going to have to do. So we ended up staying at a hotel in the South of the island called Noma, and we started our adventures by exploring one of the most incredible hidden beaches just 5-10 minutes away. Look at this. Our first stop of this Milos trip is here at Tisigurato, but I'm going to guess it's pronounced Sigurato. Apparently they don't pronounce the T in Sidziki either, so I don't know. This looks so beautiful. The front desk at the hotel warned us that this would be a bit of an adventure to get down to, but we're up for the challenge. This seems to be where the adventure begins. Just got to take a crooked ladder, baby. Ladies first, I don't. Need no ladies first, I need equality. Quality, we go together. No go. We are descending into the earth. Oh my God, it crumbles. This is so scared. I don't know if I'm ready for that Ruby Ruby. Oh my God, OK, I got this. I got this. I don't get this. I'm slight. Wait, so that wasn't the final boss gets a? Little harder but then it's OK. Ow. I'm mountain climbing right now. Here we go look at these skills. So this is the beach that people quite literally risk their lives for, and I think it's worth it. Check out this beautiful, beautiful private beach. I think the Secret got out maybe a couple years ago, but it's such a spectacular spot. It's just the coolest feeling because you're totally isolated from the rest of the island. Today is a very hot day. The Aegean Sea is like a perfect refreshment. Now I feel alive. No way I see people swimming through a cave. Alright, little doggy paddle, here we go. Let's see what creatures we find inside The Cave. Just one place. Where'd you go? Welcome to my home. Wow, this is so cool. I have never quite seen anything like it. There is a natural light show going on inside The Cave here. There's a few reasons why I fell in love with travel, but one of them is the expression of art. This is literally like a set that you'd see in a fantasy movie. Yes, girl. Yeah. Oh, my God. Girl. Yeah. Want to get this spot at its best? Come around 5:36 PM and you'll find the wall looking like this. Oh, there it is. Yeah, I just found my GoPro. I was like, guys, where's my GoPro? It was literally underneath the rock. So it's kind of hard to believe that was all in one stop and our first of the trip. But we're actually going to take you now to another little village, which is on the sunset side of the island. So let's go. Wow guys, we took the wrong turn and it led to finding this place. This looks so cool. Is the food good? I believe, Sir. But don't if you try it. You know, that's good advice. Let's try it. Look at these little European streets. Wow, look at that cathedral. Honestly, this restaurant is going to be amazing no matter what. We're all in such a good mood. I'm so happy. We got here at the perfect time. They're giving us the best table. Right here is where we're eating. And this is the sunset tonight. We've just met the owner. My name is Tagish. So he's been hyping it up. He says he has his own farm. Lot of farming tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, potatoes, whatever I want. So the chicken best of Greece is about to be served out tonight on this table right here. No pressure a little bit. A little bit of. Pressure right from the owner's garden. We've got the freshest and most delicious Greek salad you'll ever have and we have this cheesecake but served as an appy. I love cheesecake, but I've never eaten it before dinner. Sweetest thing ever. The owner came up to us, he didn't even know who we are and he gave us this on the House. The cheesecake is life changing. She's going to leave me for the cheesecake. Oh, my God, The entrees have just come out. And all I'm going to say is that it's just so good that you won't be able to understand it until you come. A restaurant's not just about the food, it's also about the people. And this has been really special. Thank you. And we have made it back home. But that's just the first day in Milos, so I'll see you tomorrow. So it's the start of a new day and with that, a career changing milestone. I'm looking at my YouTube studio app. That right there. This is crazy. If there's one thing I can leave you with, it's that if you think you can't do it, you can't. It's amazing what happens when you put all your heart passion into one thing and never give up. Thank you for 2 million. I love you guys. And let's go celebrate with one of the most amazing things that you can do here in Milos. No, that wasn't supposed to happen. We are now off on what I'm probably most excited about during this whole Milo strip. And this is the only surviving balloon. So we're actually getting the boat here at Provatas Beach. There is our boat. All right, captain, What's your name? I'm Costlas, Captain Rosos. Today is going to take us to the caves. We've got about a 20 minute boat ride from Pravatas beach, but honestly I wish it took longer. Look how beautiful this view is. But the real reason we're on here is because one of the best places to see in all of Milos is actually completely inaccessible by land. So the only way to see it is like this. For about €300, we're heading our way over there. It should be noted that you can do it in a big group setting with like 60 people crammed on a boat. That's like €30 a person. But I just hit 2,000,000 on YouTube and I want to have this moment to celebrate and just really take in Milos. Oh my God. So Acosta was just sharing something that was super interesting. He was telling me that basically back in the day, pirates would have their ships hidden inside of these caves and they would wait for an unsuspecting sailboat to cross by. And just like that, it was hot pursuit. They would probably take everything on board. And, you know, if you were lucky, you might have survived it. But where we're going next is Kleptical Caves, basically where their headquarters was. Are these the thieves? I don't know. I mean, they got a big boat. So how did they do it? There are so many yachts in Greece, more than I've seen anywhere else in the world. Wow. Yeah. They. Welcome to the moon. This is one of the very signature looks of the area. Beautiful white rocks. They look very extraterrestrial. This is so fun. Should we ask that guy to use this slide that? Would. Be nice. Wow, my turn. This is higher than I expected. I don't know if I can do this. My eardrums are really bad. All right, you keep watching this. I nutted myself but I my ears are fine. You can do it. We're doing a real Pirates of the Caribbean adventure. So the story goes that Barbarossa used to have all of this as a cave, but then the Spanish bound him and they had a massive cannon fire into here and the whole cave rooftop came crashing down into the water, taking with it all the ships and the men. But Barbarossa had a good spot chosen out, and he actually had an escape route right there. All right, let's go explore Barbarosa's cave. It's in this way to get on the other side. What a day of celebrations. This trip to Milos has been exceptional in all ways. Thank you so much that was so so cool. If you guys want to take a boat out, rent boat. Milos is the place to do it. This. Is like the highlight of Milos honestly. So the battery died on the car. Damn it. Ah, now this guy is like Push. He doesn't really speak English, but he's coming back to Push. All right, got a bunch of men pushing cars. It's here. And for? Oh, you guys are all so nice. They're kissing. We are here tonight at Black Pig and this is actually a restaurant that was recommended by Taki. How do I say the name of the restaurant? Rosquiros. Mavrosiros probably was not my first guess, but I will say that I'm in for this. The eggplant wrap. Wow. I'm I'm wow. If you choose to come here, get the country pork. It's what they're known for here. The moussaka is so, so good. And as I've said a million times, the tomatoes here in Greece are the best I've ever had. I'm very confident. We just showed you a hidden gem restaurant. But something tells me there's got to be a ton others look at this. So we just got stopped. What's your name, Alex or Ghostas Costa Tinos. So together they traveled to Egypt and they followed a lot of the videos that I've made and they got the same horse Ferrari shot. Good morning guys, and this is where we've come down to start our day. This is the Milos famous Clima and it's this really cute town. Check it out Oh there it is right there all these colorful buildings lined along the water and one of the restaurants that Ruby found is right here. It's. Called a stacas. The best part of being here at the restaurants view is amazing. Isn't it beautiful? It's seriously so beautiful. I'm moving here now. One of the best things to see in all of Milos is the motorbike duck. His name is Howard and he's here Monday to Friday. How you doing, Howard? It looks really juicy. Howard run. Run. Howard Run. So we came back for dinner. Well, we had better meals. The first two definitely surpassed this one. But overall, the view is what makes this place so extraordinary. So we came back to Palaca to find some dessert cause of course she needed it. Mm hmm. And as we were walking around, we came across this insane, insane view. So first of all, Placa is all the way up on the hill and this is the sunset side. So right there is where I went down and look at this church here guys. So epic. It's like we're above the world. Row, row, row, row. You good bro? What was that? OK, let's play. Guess the Greek word. I think it's called desserta. Hi iOS, I'm gonna find out. What's the name? Of this place I was close. I was close. I was way close I. Said I iOS desserta. So one of the Greek desserts that we see everywhere is orange cake, which is not my thing. What I'm excited about is anything creamy and fatty. So it turns out there's literally a line to get this one here and everyone's freaking out that they're back in stock because they keep selling out. It's called the meal free. Apparently this is the specialty. I'm trying to get a real bag before you do. Oh no, we've. Been standing here. We came in first. I will not lose our freaking dessert. I didn't even want this dessert when I first walked in, but now I need it. Look how amazing that looks. Let's see if it was almost worth getting in a fight over. Let me say the whipped cream is probably the best I've ever had, and with the crunchiness it's like eating a delicious eclair. I don't know if either three of these are my favorite desserts, but quality wise they're the best of the best. Now, if you guys are looking for somewhere to stay in Milos, this is where we've been staying. It's called Noma, and I think we're literally the first people to have stayed here. Amazing sunset and the breakfast is actually incredible. This is the room and it's a very beautiful style. Like all of the textures, the finishings, it's really, really cool. This is the bathroom we came here to see the most famous spot in all of Milos. This is SATA Kaniko, and it's beautiful. It's an incredible beach. But we're going to actually come back tomorrow because we don't want to deal with this. Turns out Milos is no longer such a hidden gem. Plan B. We're going to this little town that was like a fisherman's village and it is absolute goals. Never ceases to amaze me that water church, the white boardwalk and look at that right down there little fisherman homes. So this place is called Mandra Kia. But if you're from America, you'd like Mandra Key to me. My my girl who came to Mandra Key got some nice photos that pretty spot on. Yeah, and it's empty right now too. I think everyone is just busy at the beach. Perfect time to come. Check this out. This is as fresh as it gets. Look at that right there. There is a giant hanger of octopus that came right from there and served right to the table here. Instead of just checking out the octopus, we thought we'd actually come try it. Honestly, it's not ever something I would order, but when in Greece? Whoa, no way that's so good. Honestly doesn't taste fishy at all. This is the most tender octopus I've ever had. I'm not even bothered by the suction cups you're making me. Gay just watching. You. You went to Marcus. Now I'm going on the record. If I were to have a master's thesis, it would be called the Beautiful View Bias, and it's that restaurants that have beautiful views will often be rated better than their food actually is. The octopus is the best I've ever had, hands down, but the other items that we've had are somewhere in between. Overall, 4.6 out of five on Google might have been a bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly good and definitely a worthwhile stop. Now as I mentioned before, the east of the island is pretty much inaccessible by car, but we wanted to go and explore as much as we could. So we took the northwest road and let me tell you, it was incredible. Pretty much everywhere we went on this road were incredible. Caves, dramatic drop off cliffs, and a reasonable spot to swim. We came, we peed, we conquered. Let's go. That's the beauty of this island. No matter where you drive, you'll find some incredible things to see all the way at the Far East of the island, we found this hidden gem. And Polonia is a ton of boutique hotels all within walking distance of the water. It's probably like 400 to €500 a night to have something like that. It's worth a day trip. We're coming for a cocktail and the most epic view over Milos. Welcome to Utopia Cafe. It is so beautiful up here. This is a totally different perspective. Greece is like the island of cats. There are so many of these guys. Me and Samuel are just having the most vibey sunset. Got some wine, some espresso? So we've come here to one of the most popular restaurants in all of Flaca, and the reason we know it is every night we walked by it, it was crowded, it was full, and we were lucky to get a seat here tonight. This is my second favorite restaurant of all of Milos. I have to say, it was delicious. Barciello though, Steak in the cake. Oh, you didn't I? Was just thinking that I really wanted some bud lava so budgie wedgie this. Is a really good bacava hey? And This is why you come at 7:00 AM. The parking lot is empty. Hello, fellow astronauts. We have left planet Earth. Look at this. This whole area is pretty iconic. They've had lots of high end campaigns shot here for like Prada, Louis Vuitton. And you can see why it's such a unique and distinct landscape. But the most iconic part of it, the postcard of Milos, if you will, is just around Ben. So this is a really cool moment as a photographer. This place is like a high fashion photo shoot. These rolling rocks and the textures and colors, the lights, It's so much fun to shoot. Unleash your tiger Ruby. Are you going to jump scared? It's so hot. I don't know. That's got to be 20 meters. My girl's conquer in fears and I'm here supporting on the sidelines. Ready. The face of a champion. You feel like you're in the air for so long you can just kick your feet. So this is what Sarakanika looks like a little bit later, probably 9:00 AM now, maybe 10. And it's actually really cool. Everyone comes here to watch each other jump. I wish I could jump, but my eardrums are just so bad these days. Alright, we've come here for a brunch spot. How do I say the name of the restaurant? Coquino Padillado. A red bicycle in English. We got ourselves a savory pesto crepe. We've gotten ourselves this amazing Greek omelet with feta. You try that one? I'll try. Something tells me I don't want to trade. The owner just came over to tell us that he's got a surprise for us. What does? That mean they're giving us dessert? Oh God. This is the surprise. The orange juice is amazing. So how's the orange cake? Really good, I can only have a few bites but man with this vanilla ice cream. It is actually really good. Melts in your mouth, it's super moist. If you want a super indulgent breakfast, I'd say savory crepe and orange cake to destroy yourself and then your day is off to a great start. Look at you go. So today Ruby learned to drive our manual rental car. So you're going to drive with your left foot and your right foot? What? It's really. Yeah. 2 feet. Yeah. How do I start? This Do the dance. Clutch gas. Come on to two. That means butt down, down. I've taught a few people now. Nobody's learned faster than her. And now we've come for another dinner here in town. This is grandma's cheese pie. We've got here more grilled or baked cheeses. We've got some goat cheese. We've got more goat cheese on the most delicious looking Greek salad. There was a wait outside so it tells me we're in the right spot. Let's see if the hype is real. Spoiler. We have a new favorite restaurant. The baked cheese, the baked piglet and the baked lamb are honestly sensational. And these potatoes are made with like a lemon. So good. I am 2 wines deep and I'm ready to go. That is where we're going. I don't know if it's just the wine kicking in, but wow, this is such a vibe. Oh my God. Milos is amazing guys. It's probably one of the top travel destinations I've ever ever been. What do you think? Are these people either quitters or are they sinners? Or are they not at the top of the church? They're. Quitters. OK, yeah, just checking. Wow, what a view. So if you come to the back of the church, there's actually a little way in to get the very tallest point. Just gotta push through here. Wow, this is the spot. And guys, as I'm on top of Milos, I can't think of a better place to end it. It's been an amazing journey. And if you found this video interesting, you're definitely going to want to go watch the start of the Grease trip and hit subscribe because there's a few more videos to come from this incredible destination. Let's get lost again in the next one.
