Delhi Police dismiss claims of Abhijeet Dipke’s detention during protest: ‘He is available on stage’

Jantar Mantar Protest: The Delhi Police on Monday dismissed the reports claiming that Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has been detained during the party’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ march towards Parliament, clarifying that such claims are “baseless” and “misleading” and said Dipke had not been taken into custody.

In a post on X, the Delhi Police said, “Misleading reports are currently circulating on various social media platforms claiming that Abhijit Dipke has been detained by the Delhi Police. It is formally clarified that these allegations are entirely false and he is available on stage.”

The police urged people not to believe unverified information and appealed for cooperation in maintaining law and order around the protest venue.

The statement came after reports and claims circulated on social media alleging that Dipke was deatined by the security forces during the protest march.

CJP spokesperson Saurav Das claimed on X that Dipke had been “picked up” by the police and alleged that authorities were cracking down on peaceful protesters.

“DIPKE HAS BEEN PICKED UP BY THE POLICE! WE REQUEST ALL MPs TO IMMEDIATELY STAND IN SUPPORT OF THE STUDENTS ON THE STREETS! THE POLICE IS BRUTALLY CRACKING DOWN AND BEATING UP PEACEFUL PROTESTERS.”

However, Das later issued another post stating that Dipke was neither in detention nor under arrest.

“A HUGE CROWD is still outside Kerala House,” he said.

Earlier today, the Delhi Police also refuted claims of violence and mass detentions at Jantar Mantar, where the CJP had been protesting.

“Some segments from the media have mentioned sporadic use of violence/detentions at Jantar Mantar by the Delhi Police. It is informed that no such incident has taken place and the protest is being handled professionally,” the police said.

The authorities have maintained that protests at designated locations are being managed in accordance with security protocols while ensuring public order.
