A Boeing 737 was dragged onto a cliff - now it's the world's wildest villa

This is the Private Jet Villa, a Boeing 737 converted into luxury accommodation, perched 150 meters above the Indian Ocean in Uluwatu, Bali. Before this became one of the most extraordinary villas in Bali, it was a project many people believed simply couldn't be done. In 2021, developer Felix Demin acquired a retired Boeing 737 with a vision to transform it into a luxury villa unlike anything else in the world. But getting a commercial aircraft onto a remote cliffside above Nyang-Nyang beach was only the beginning. The aircraft first had to be dismantled piece by piece with tens of thousands of bolts removed before it could be transported through Bali's narrow roads during a complex multi-day operation involving cranes, escorts and temporary access roads built specifically for the project. And once the aircraft finally arrived here on the cliff edge, the real challenge began. Over the following years, architects, engineers and designers worked to completely reinvent the aircraft into a fully immersive hospitality experience, while still preserving the soul and identity of the original jet itself. Even the interiors presented huge challenges with almost every surface curved, meaning much of the furniture and detailing had to be custom designed specifically for the aircraft. Today, what once sounded impossible has become one of the most talked-about hospitality projects anywhere in the world. Welcome to the private jet villa. Well, actually, not just yet. Because like any trip that you're going to take, you can't just go onto a private jet. You have to actually go to the arrivals desk first and get your boarding pass. Now, this is the arrivals desk just over here, but look at the beautiful tropical landscape that you are immediately immersed into. I already start to feel quite luxurious, quite high-end, I'm liking this. So I'm gonna go over, my boarding pass? Yes, please. Wonderful, thank you. Collect my boarding pass. Check out that look, private jet villa. Thanks very much. And then we're gonna make our way through to our plane. Now, you can see here how well curated the gardens are, how well looked after and maintained everything is. There really is an element of premium, extreme high-end luxury here. Now, the entire concept of this actually started in 2021, completed in 2023, and you understand, looking at that, you understand why it took two years to complete. Look at the infrastructure that has been put in here. It's not just the jet, but look at all these wonderful, huge individual concrete slabs that have been put down that all have LED lighting hidden underneath each step. So at nighttime, it completely changes the vibe and the feel. But if we move up, I can't believe I'm walking underneath the bottom of a Boeing 737. This is crazy, right? But listen, you can hear the sound of that Indian the waves roaring and crashing through, but it brings us up to our own private infinity pool overlooking the sea. You've even got a huge piece of thick Perspex glass that has been put in the front that you can see through, a jacuzzi as well, just in case you want a little bit more luxury, and this is the kind of treatment you get here. The luxury home logo put into flower petals in the jacuzzi. Four beds, so you've got ample space for maybe you and a couple of guests that are coming out to enjoy this pool to cool off. But it's that view that you come here for. Now we are actually 150 meters up on top of the cliff above the Nyang-Nyang Beach here in Uluwatu, Bali. Now we're gonna move back through because there's another area outside that I wanna show you. Now, just reminding you that this jet didn't arrive here like this. It had to come here deconstructed in several pieces. And when I mean deconstructed, I really mean deconstructed. The jets had to come off. The wings had to come off. The tail fins had to come off. The fuselage had to be split into three separate sections to be able to even make its journey here, which was no easy feat. But imagine in the evenings, coming around a beautiful little fire pit, a wonderful, cozy, relaxed environment, chilling out, hearing the waves crashing, maybe some nice cold bottles of wine, beer, champagne, sparkling water if you wanted to, but who would be doing that here in a setting like this? But let's make our way up because I wanna start to show you what this jet has really got in store. The landscaping is something that captures my eye. I love how these trees have been kind of sculpted into almost pieces of art. They've not just left them to grow naturally, although they are, but they've just made that aesthetic something special and unique, just like this staircase. It gives you that very aviation feel walking up and into the plane like you're boarding, yet it's a single stringer that holds these stairs together to bring you up to that main entrance. So this is the main entrance into the private jet villa. But before we actually take you inside, Let's just have a think about how you might arrive here. Now, we are in Bali, so it could be on the back of a moped if you wanted to, but that's not very luxury. It could be by car or limousine, which is available to be sorted out through here. However, I prefer arriving via helicopter, because you have your own helipad, which is on top of the roof of the arrivals area, And you can have that sorted out and arranged. I mean, how insane is that? Your own helipad to then stay on your own private jet. I mean, where else is there an immersive experience that brings together these things in one place? Well, right here. So come on, let's take a proper look. So just before we go in, kick off my shoes and you're instantly brought in to this open plan living area. Now I know that you can already see that breathtaking view behind me and that is one of the main reasons why we're here but before we dive into the view I want to just take a moment to explore this space that you've actually got which is a tremendous space. So let's start over here with this little kind of seating area which again tucked inside which is wonderful place to chill out listen to the waves maybe you've been having a busy day and you're thinking oh I just want to relax in the shade a little bit of air conditioning just have a snooze just close my eyes listen to those waves I stop it I've got to wake up now incredibly comfortable and I love the color palette that they've chosen to go with very neutral very calming quite contemporary in feel. This is a real fusion of kind of aviation architecture, the infrastructure. I love the fact that the actual architecture is this plane and you're inside. Now if you're very keen eyed you might have already spotted one of the other materials that they've chosen to use for their worktops, for their table, their dining area, which is this travertine and incredibly high-end luxury feel that you've got. The wonderful white soft seating with gold accents, just adding those soft subtle touches of premium, of luxury, everything you think of when you think of a private jet. But you're wondering, oh there's menus, I can see that we can order some food. Yeah, because you have your own private chef. Now you may be thinking, well I don't really feel like I want to walk all the way down to order my food. Not a problem, because you also have your own private butler service. At the press of a button you can get whatever it is that you desire or you could press the special button which is quite possibly the most important button in this entire private jet. This one right here because if you need it just press for champagne and it does really work genuinely. also got this lovely little kind of kitchenette area here, sink, you've got tea facilities, surround sound, speakers that you've got, a wonderful way just to kind of keep yourself immersed. And I really love that they've used this almost vintage antique style mirror as the backing so it's not as harsh and stark and it doesn't kind of interfere with this very relaxed and sumptuous area. You've got a mini bar in here as well and then you have the ability if you wish to hide all of this out the way using the door system that we have here as well. So they've thought of everything but even this still kind of in keeping with that theme of being on a jet. Now there are two ways that you can kind of go, you can either go to the left or to the right and I like to think of that as first class and economy normally, although there isn't really any economy on this private jet. Now before I show you any of the accommodation, I want to show you something outside. We're going to come back and really look at the wing terrace, but if you look down here, just on the edge of the beach, you can see these little bubbles. That's actually the Bubble Hotel, which is from the same developer that brought you the private jet villa. He has another version of the Bubble Hotel in Ubud as well, where he's actually beginning his next exciting project. But before we talk about that, let's go and check out some of this accommodation. The accommodation is separated into the back of the plane and the front of the plane. You've got these doors which can close off that terrace view for you, but have you seen how the doors actually follow the shape of the fuselage of the plane, which for me is a really ingenious way that they've worked and used local craftsmen to create a very unique structure. Now when you come in you've got wardrobes here on the side which means you can store all of your things away, some robes that are included for you as well to be able to enjoy. You've still got the actual plain windows which allow that natural light to come through but also little glimpses of the view which break it up and each window offering something slightly different I really like. This is actually the air conditioning which has been hidden into the side so it's not intrusive. You've got controls, smart controls on the top where we can control the air conditioning, we can control the lights from here but you've also got manual light switches as well. Now you might be thinking well what if I want to close these windows down, what if I want to shut her away especially when I'm going to go to sleep? Well you've got electric blinds at the touch of a button which means even if in the middle of the day you wanted to have a little bit of a nap, you can make it that more secluded, kind of relaxed, almost spa-like feeling in here. You can really feel a sense of peace and calm. But come on, come inside and really start to explore this bedroom. A lovely, great, big double bed right here in the centre and nice and spacious. I love the LED lighting hidden around the bottom of the bed, little in-cut niches and nooks so you've got extra additional tucked away storage which again makes me think of being on a plane, these lovely little hideaway holes to store things. A great vanity section that you have so if you wanted to be getting ready and sorting yourself out before maybe going for dinner or out for drinks. You've got drawer space which is good, of course soft close which we do like and I love the accents that you've got, these kind of gold bronze trim that you see all over, even including the bronzed light fixtures that you have around the bed as well. Now if we move through, obviously we need to have the ensuite bathrooms, I'll meet you on the other side. You do have an entire stone double-ended bathtub and look floor-standing taps that bronze accenting again a beautiful view out of what was the kind of aft door on the plane I love this ingenuity the little pebbled stones they have around the bottom of the bath kind of tying in that outside inside feeling that little bit of connection to nature and local raw materials I love that you've got your little extra kind of toiletry set there for you just ready some fresh-cut flowers and again that travertine in the sink that we've got. Nice big sink area because this might be the room for your guests to be staying because this is not what's even considered the principal suite. Now two doors at the very very back of the plane obviously. Number one that's going to be the toilet that you have and I still love these doors can you see they've gone with those accented colors in here and then you've got the walk-in shower which again travertine and look you've even got cut in niches and a beautiful space and size who would have thought that I'm getting to shower on a plane where the showers made of travertine. I mean this is crazy. The use of light in the plane was quite a challenging thing to think of. Obviously you get a certain amount of light that can come in through the small windows but they've done a really clever job of integrating soft lighting so it's not harsh it's not too stark. used glass panels to break kind of barriers between areas of the room still allowing a bit of flow of light. I love the hidden LED lighting on the top, on the bottom, they thought really cleverly. You do have more wardrobe storage here for the other side, but a door which takes us back out to that open plan living area. Working with such a unique and challenging space, they had to come up with some clever ways of opening up that space. The use of two large big mirrors on one side has really done that because it elongates that space which already feels incredibly open because you have this huge bifold glass panel wall that allows you out onto that wing terrace and that is where we're headed. The wing terrace, this is where I think you'll spend the majority of your time. A wonderful seating area to enjoy some cocktails, the view, even have a little bit of a sunbathe if you wanted to. As you move up you get a view over that spectacular pool area and it's a really interesting use of design where they've kept the angles on one side that tie in with the steps but then they move into to these sweeping curves that mold and blend with the natural cliffside landscape. It's clear that views are important to the developer, Felix. And as you would expect, we're gonna be going to the front of the plane where first class would normally be and checking out the cockpit. Here in the primary suite, when you come in, you've got your toilet to one side, and then you've got your shower to the other side. Pretty much the same as the previous cabin, but you've got wardrobes and a little bit easier access with them both being straight on. So you've got space for maybe all of your things in one and then maybe all of, well no, this will probably be your things, that'll probably be her things, won't it? When you move to the other side of the wardrobes, that's where we have the kind of vanity section. So as I said, vanity section, you can see it's a twin sink setup that you have, that travertine in cut, the extras that we're looking at, these wonderful brass finishings. and I like that knurling that you have on the hand dials. LED lighting hiding behind the mirrors, all of this open and spacious feeling, that color palette carries on throughout the entire plane. Now, let's move in to see the bedroom. A beautiful large double bed that we have and this wonderful kind of tinted mirror that we have, again, opening up that space. You've got those electric blinds to bring down on both sides, but it's the view that you have from lying on the bed and looking out through what were the actual cockpit windows that really make this a unique place to spend the night. So, as I said, the view is something really quite but this is not just a bathtub that you have here. This is a jacuzzi tub that you have, and you can see here that we've now got the Luxury Home Show logo in the bath, And this is the level of experience that you have. This is the care and attention, the detail that all of the staff here who have been absolutely amazing. They really take care of you. It really adds to the experience. But if you were coming here as a romantic getaway, maybe a honeymoon, maybe it's an engagement or a special birthday, an anniversary, this is the type of experience that makes that one of those memories that you're going to cherish. one of those memories that you have for a lifetime, a story that you want to tell over and over again. And that for me is where this really sets itself apart from other destinations and other visits that you could have in this area.
