Passport row escalates: Pawan Khera approaches Supreme Court after Gauhati HC rejects bail plea

The legal battle in the high profile passport row has now reached the Supreme Court. Congress leader Pawan Khera has moved the apex court challenging the Guwahati High Courts decision to reject his anticipatory bail plea in a case linked to allegations against Assam Chief Minister Hemanta Biswas, Sharma's wife. The controversy began earlier this month when Pawan Khera during a press conference, alleged that Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, the chief ministers wife, held multiple foreign passports and had undisclosed assets abroad. In Hum yeh janana chahte Hain Ki jis mukhyamantri Ki Puri Rajniti musalmano ke khilaf nafrat per aadharit ho uski apni patni though Muslim deshon Ki passport rakhti ho aur Ek Antigua ka passport rakti ho number Ek number though hame ye janana chahte Hain kyonki Bharat ke kanoon ke hisab se AAP dual citizenship yani Ki dohari nagarikata nahi rakh sakte. Hum ye janana chahte Hain Ki kya reniki bhuya Sharma Bharat ka passport bhee rakhati Hain ishi aur citizen of India also because we have shown you 3 passports. One is the Golden pass of UAE Abu Dhabi issued in Abu Dhabi. It is a living document, not an expired document. Number 2 Egypt living document, living passport, not an expired passport. Number 3 Antigua Barbuda living passport not dead, not expired. How can an Indian national have 3 passports of 3 different countries? These claims triggered a strong response. Sharma filed a criminal complaint in Assam accusing Khera of defamation, forgery and criminal conspiracy. Hum ne examine kiya her bath Mein place of birth spelling saare kuchh gadbadi the phir Hamaara police ne Bharat sarkaar ka diplomatic channel se reconfirm kiya Ki eoi uaeala passport fraud hai. Baki aur though Jo passport diya hai yeh bhee mera lagta hai som mangal budhbhar Tak wo he sthet se AA jaayega. Ultimately paband khaira ka upper Ek fraud documents banana criminal conspiracy karna paband khaira ka saath Jo Jo baitha tha sabka upper mera lagta hai Ki Mein confident Hoon abhi paband khaira unka jivan ka antim Khan Assam ka jail Mein he khate hai. It seems that a Mad Dog has bitten them and from the Top Rank of the Congress to the lowest rank, I believe that they don't have anything else to do except defaming people and that too with a I generated and total photoshopping. Following the FIR, Assam Police initiated action and Kehra sought legal protection from arrest. So I saw what they have said but I want to ask them, is it are they denying that they have no property in Dubai? Are they denying that they have no company in America? Are they denying that they have no shell companies anywhere in the world? We will give much more evidence. Everyday a lot is coming. Let him do it. Yes. Why has he concealed the Dubai properties owned by his wife from his election affidavit? Wo toh bhagura hai unka unka reply Mein kyon dena hai koi koi bhee arey bolne se alag baat hai. Hum jaisa log hona hum log ahi jaata Hoon bolne vaala toh TV Milne se pakkat Mein free Mein bolne vaala toh bahut log ho karna alag baat hai. His first move was the Telangana High Court, which granted him transit anticipatory bail for a week, allowing him time to approach the appropriate court in Assam. But that relief was shortlift. The Assam government challenged the order and the Supreme Court stepped in, staying the transit bail and later refusing to extend it. With that, Kehra was left with only one option, approach the Guwahati High Court. However, in a major setback, the High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea. On April 24th, the court made some sharp observations. It said this was not just a simple defamation case and noted that Khera had dragged an innocent lady into the controversy for political mileage. The High Court also pointed out that custodial interrogation may be necessary to investigate the source of the documents and claims used by Khera. In other words, the court indicated that the allegations were serious enough to warrant deeper investigation. Khera, however, has maintained that his statements were made in a political context and claims the case is politically motivated. Now, with the Guvahati High Court denying him relief, he has turned once again to the Supreme Court, seeking protection from arrest and challenging the high courts order. If the Supreme Court grants relief, it could provide Khera temporary protection and potentially reshaped the direction of the case. But if the court refuses, the Congress leader could face immediate legal consequences, including possible arrest. Beyond the courtroom, this case has also intensified the political war between the BJP and the Congress, especially in Assam where the controversy first erupted. And now all eyes are on the Supreme Court, where the next chapter of this high stakes legal battle will unfold.
