Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant admitted his side needs a reset after a dramatic Super Over defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday.
“Too many minds doesn’t make it easy on the ground,” Pant acknowledged at the post-match presentation.
The loss was LSG’s fifth in a row, leaving them at the bottom of the points table with six defeats in eight matches. After having KKR reeling at 93/7, a remarkable unbeaten 83 from Rinku Singh turned the game on its head. Chasing 156, LSG stumbled but stayed alive thanks to a last-ball six from Mohammed Shami, which forced the match into a Super Over.
Things then fell apart quickly, as LSG managed just 1/2 — the lowest Super Over total in IPL history — against Sunil Narine, who dismissed Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram. KKR sealed the win off the very first ball of their chase.
‘Need A Break’
Reflecting on the result, Pant said, “We definitely need a break; I think we are going to get refresh. There is always pressure and it is going to be (a) pressure game always, but at the same time, we have to look for answers inside, not outside, and just keep it simple.”
He stressed the importance of collective responsibility within the squad. “Just take accountability, each and every guy; it can’t be about one or two guys. It has to be about the whole unit and a lot of people will take accountability for that for sure.”
Pant also explained the decision to back Pooran in the Super Over despite his lean patch. “We had a discussion as a group and the name (that) came up was (of) Nicholas Pooran’s (for Super Over). He might not go through the best form of his life, but at the same time, you will trust your player in a hard situation like this,” he added.
While acknowledging the lack of positives at the moment, Pant remains hopeful. “There might not be enough positives right now, but I think after the break, there will be a lot of positives for sure,” he said, expressing confidence in a turnaround.
