Legendary Indian batter Rohit Sharma surpassed MS Dhoni in an elite list and created a massive record during the Mumbai Indians' (MI) second Indian Premier League 2026 match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday, April 4, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The 38-year-old appeared to be in great touch as he scored 35 runs off 26 balls to start the innings before Nitish Rana caught him off Axar Patel in the 10th over. He had hit five boundaries and a six during this short but crucial innings.
Rohit broke a significant IPL record before walking back to the dugout. With the only six he smashed during this innings, the former MI captain surpassed MS Dhoni's record for the most sixes an Indian batter against a single IPL franchise. Rohit now has 51 sixes against Delhi Capitals, while Dhoni hit 50 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
However, Chris Gayle still holds the overall record. During his IPL career, the former West Indies great struck 61 sixes against Punjab Kings while representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Kolkata Knight Riders. While playing for RCB and PBKS, he also hit 54 sixes against KKR.

As for the DC vs MI IPL 2026 match, Mumbai Indians were restricted to 162 for six by the Delhi Capitals, with 51 from stand-in captain Suryakumar Yadav being their highest. Due to illness, regular skipper Hardik Pandya was unable to play in this match. Throughout the innings, Mumbai had trouble building partnerships. Suryakumar played a steady 51-run knock in the middle, while Rohit Sharma scored 35 at the top. Naman Dhir contributed 28 runs at the end. Mukesh Kumar, who took two wickets for 26 runs and placed early pressure on Mumbai's batting lineup, was a standout player for Delhi.
Even Delhi did not get a good start as they lost two wickets by the first two overs itself. However, young Sameer Rizvi once again emerged as a hero and played a sensational 90-run knock to single-handedly demolish the Mumbai Indians bowling attack, who had no answer for the former CSK star.
