PITTSBURGH (AP) — As the NFL draft unfolded under the sunny skies of Pittsburgh, participants made a statement not only with their athletic prowess but also with their distinctive fashion choices on the red carpet.
From tailored suits in vibrant colors to personalized embroidery and sponsorship artwork, the players displayed their individuality, complemented by accessories that included jewelry and even dental bling.
Personalized Fashion Statements
The players' outfits varied widely, with Ohio State defensive end Arvell Reese showcasing his partnership with Reese's through the interior lining of his jacket. Teammate Carnell Tate honored his family by featuring their names inside the lapels of his cream-colored suit, which he described as a 'crop top' for a unique flair.
Tennessee cornerback Colton Hood opted for a blue suit, matching his family's attire and including photos of loved ones inside his jacket. Ohio State safety Caleb Downs also dressed with family, wearing jackets adorned with personal photographs.
Creative Expressions
Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love made headlines with his brown suit, which featured his own artwork on the interior promoting his sports anime comic book venture, 'Jeremonstar.' Just before the draft, Love collaborated with Sharpie to launch a limited-edition comic book titled 'Jeremonstar: Draft Day Ashcan,' detailing his football journey.
'This is the biggest stage of my life so far, so I want to make sure I'm ready for it,' Love stated, emphasizing the importance of the event.
Cultural Representations
Miami offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa made a bold statement with artwork on the back of his jacket, reflecting his American Samoan heritage. He explained that the design represents the ulafala, a symbol of high chief status in his culture, underscoring his commitment to honor his community.
'This is the ulafala, and it represents the high chief or the high monarch,' Mauigoa said. 'It’s part of our culture, and obviously my dad is a chief, so in the back it's a little painting that kind of oversees the whole idea of the American Samoan community.'
Diverse Attendees
Not all notable players were present at the draft; for instance, Fernando Mendoza, who led Indiana to a national championship, did not attend. However, Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson opted for a classic look with a traditional suit and white shirt, while teammate Kadyn Proctor showcased his personality with dental jewelry on the red carpet.
