A severe weather system is set to impact large parts of north India today, with thunderstorms, gusty winds and hailstorms expected across multiple states through the evening and night.
According to the latest weather alert issued, storm activity has already begun developing over Rajasthan, signalling the onset of a wider system that will sweep across neighbouring regions over the next several hours.
Meteorologists have warned of widespread thunderstorms accompanied by strong winds ranging between 40 and 70 km/h. Several areas are also likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall spells, with isolated incidents of hailstorms that could impact crops, traffic and outdoor activities.

The storm system is expected to move eastward, affecting Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh in a staggered manner through the evening.
State-wise timelines indicate that Rajasthan will face the brunt of the storm between 3 pm and 8 pm, followed by Haryana from 4 pm to 9 pm. Punjab is likely to see severe weather between 5 pm and 11 pm, while Delhi could experience intense thunderstorm activity from 6 pm to 10 pm.
In Chandigarh, storm conditions are expected between 7 pm and midnight. Western Uttar Pradesh may see prolonged activity stretching from 6 pm to as late as 2 am.
Experts caution that conditions may vary at the district level, with some areas witnessing more intense storms than others. Sudden wind gusts, lightning strikes and reduced visibility during heavy rain could pose risks to commuters and residents.
Authorities have advised people to stay indoors during peak storm hours, avoid sheltering under trees, and secure loose outdoor objects. Farmers in affected regions are also being urged to take precautionary measures to protect standing crops from potential hail damage.
This system comes amid changing seasonal patterns, where rising temperatures often trigger convective storms in northern India during the transition from spring to summer.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local weather updates and remain alert as the storm system progresses across the region through the evening.
