What was supposed to be a warm, celebratory evening for Sunil Pal turned unexpectedly uncomfortable, leaving the comedian visibly hurt and confused. A video from a recent Mumbai event has gone viral, showing Pal being invited on stage, handed a bouquet, and seemingly honoured. But the moment quickly took an awkward turn when he was not allowed to speak and was instead asked to return to his seat.
Opening up about the incident, Pal told CNN-News18 Showsha exclusively how the evening began on a positive note. “Ye ek shayari ka program tha jisme main gaya tha. Many good shayars had come to this Urdu-Arab event. One of my closest friends had invited me to this event so I went and was having a good time,” he said.

The comedian added that being called on stage felt like a genuine gesture of respect. “Then they invited me to the stage and handed me a bouquet. Since it was a very good event with amazing shayars, I wanted to say something. All I wanted to say was ‘thank you’ and appreciate the poets there. Unhe samman krna tha mujhe kuki vo deserve karte hai.”
However, what followed left him taken aback. “But the man standing there just refused to give the mic to me. I don’t know who he was but I asked so many times but he didn’t want me to speak at all,” Pal recalled, describing the moment as both confusing and embarrassing.
The viral clip captures him politely requesting, “At least let me say thank you,” while the organiser continues to gesture for him to step away. According to Pal, the situation felt even more uncomfortable because of the audience’s reaction. “Everyone there was watching and recording the video of me on stage because they thought I was being honoured but look what happened. I felt insulted.”

Trying to understand what went wrong, Pal later reached out to the friend who had invited him. “Later, I even asked my friend, who had invited me, what was the issue but he asked me to forget and move on. Even he didn’t know why I wasn’t allowed to say a simple thank you on stage.”
Clearly affected, the comedian chose not to stay back at the event. “I didn’t stay there anymore and simple walked away. Bhot hi galat hua mere sath,” he said.
The video has since sparked reactions online, with several social media users calling out the incident and expressing support for Pal, saying he was treated unfairly during what should have been a moment of appreciation.
